PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team will host Villanova University for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The Friars are currently tied for fifth place in the BIG EAST alongside Villanova and Marquette, posting a 3-3-1 conference record. Providence sits at 8-6-2 overall on the season and defeated the Golden Eagles head-to-head earlier this season.

Series History Against Villanova… Providence holds a 13-12-2 all-time record against Villanova. The Friars have ripped off six-straight wins against the Wildcats dating back to Nov. 2, 2013. The most recent win came last season on Sept. 22, 2018 in Villanova, Pa., 2-0.

Scouting the Wildcats… Villanova has an identical 3-3-1 record in BIG EAST play, while holding a 7-6-3 overall record. Most recently, the Wildcats surrendered a 3-1 lead to the St. John's Red Storm on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Villanova, Pa. Villanova led 3-1 in the second half before conceding three unanswered goals, with the game-winner coming in the second minute of overtime.
Brice McInroy leads the offense with 15 points, she has converted a team-high seven goals while adding one assist. Teammates Chloe O'Neill and Sam Rosette are tied for second on the team in goals with four. O'Neill has a team-high five assists. Rebecca Gartner and Hensley Hancuff have shared duty in net, Gartner has played in 11 games compared to Hancuff's six.
Scouting the Friars… The Friars find themselves tied for fifth place in the BIG EAST with Villanova and Marquette.
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) leads the team in goals (seven) and points (14) while
Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) and
Olivia Lucia (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) are tied for the team lead in assists (two). McNulty has had an impressive junior campaign after being named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Four of her seven goals have proved to be game-winners, ranking her 28
th in the country in game-winning goals and first in the conference.
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) has found continued success in net after tying the single-season record for shutouts last season (10). She boasts a 0.89 goals against average and is ranked 27
st nationally with a 0.861 save percentage. Hogan was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, Oct. 21 for the second time this season, after tallying a season-high 12 saves on 25 shots faced in Providence's 2-1 win over Creighton. She leads the BIG EAST in save percentage (.861), saves (87) and saves per game (5.8).
BIG EAST Road Win… Providence earned an important BIG EAST result on the road at Creighton on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a 2-1 comeback victory. The Bluejays took the lead in the first half before
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) notched two goals within five minutes for her first multi-goal performance of the season and fourth of her career. McNulty's goals came in the 50
th and 55
th minutes.
Jana Braun (Frittlingen, Germany) earned her first point of the season, assisting on McNulty's first goal.
Four-Game Win Streak… Providence's season-best four-game win streak came to an end on Sunday, Oct. 6 when the team hosted No. 11 Georgetown at The Chap. The Friars allowed the first goal of the match in the 28
th minute after trading opportunities. The team failed to cut into the lead as No. 11 Georgetown prevailed, 4-0. Providence and Georgetown were the last remaining unbeaten BIG EAST teams heading into the matchup, with both holding a 2-0 conference record. This marked the first game this season that the Friars allowed more than one goal in a match.
Providence's second BIG EAST win came in the 106
th minute against Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis. when sophomore
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) scored her third golden goal of the year and sixth career goal. The goal tied her for the team-lead in goals (five) with
Hannah McNulty.
Kelsie Cummings (Millbury, Mass.) scored her first career goal in the 45
th minute on a feed from
Alessandra Arace (Pittsfield, Mass.) to gain a 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles found the equalizer in the 79
th minute before Providence prevailed in double overtime with the victory.
Shelby Hogan recorded five saves on the night to improve to 7-3-1. She now holds a 0.88 goals against average this season with a 0.861 save percentage.
Offensive Breakout… Providence scored a season-best four goals against St. John's in the team's shutout victory on Sept. 28 at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium to open its BIG EAST schedule. The game marked the first time this season that the margin of victory/defeat was larger than one goal. The Friars improved to 5-1 this season on home turf, and 13-2 over their last 15 games at The Chap.
Overtime Heroes… Seven of the Friars' 16 matches have been decided in overtime this season and they have posted a 5-0-2 mark. Providence's most recent overtime match came against DePaul on Thursday, Oct. 10 at Chapey Field at Anderson when the Friars and Blue Demons played to a scoreless draw.
One-Goal Affairs… Thirteen of the Friars' 16 matches this season have been decided by one goal or less, with two draws on their record. Providence's most recent match resulted in a 1-0 setback to Butler University on
Up Next… Providence will travel to Seton Hall University on Thursday, Oct. 31 for the team's final BIG EAST matchup. The game will kick-off at 6:00 p.m. in South Orange, N.J. and will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
