Men’s Soccer Hosts Creighton For Annual Pink Out Friartown Match

The game will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team looks to welcome Creighton University this Saturday, Oct. 26 for their annual Pink Out Friartown game. The match is set for kick-off at 3:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. There will be a thunderstick giveaway before the game.

Scouting the Bluejays
Creighton recently defeated DePaul at home, 1-0, on Oct. 23. This improves their record to 7-5-1 overall and 3-3-0 in league play. Before the win, Creighton had three straight losses. On Oct. 19 they lost to St. John's at home, 2-0. Previously, they lost two games on the road to Xavier (1-0) and Seton Hall (1-0). Twelve players have accumulated points for the Bluejays. Luke Haakenson leads the squad in points (12) with five goals and two assists. Yudai Tashiro has the next highest with seven points from two goals and three assists. Charles Auguste has tallied six points with two goals and two assists. Rounding out the top half, Ziyad Fares and Dominic Briggs have both recorded five points respectively. In net, Paul Kruse and Collin Valdivia have both been starting for the Bluejays. Kruse holds a 1.14 goals against average and a .759 save percentage. Valdivia holds a 1.24 goals against average and .710 save percentage.

Scouting the Friars 
The Friars are coming off a 2-0 win on the road at Villanova on Wednesday, Oct. 23. This improved their record to 9-5-0 on the season and 3-3-0 in league play. Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored his second goal of the season. Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) scored the insurance goal at the 60' mark. The Friars lost to DePaul, 2-0 (Oct. 19). On Oct. 12 they defeated Marquette, 2-0. Esben Wolf (Copenhagen, Denmark) scored his first career goal in the 58th minute. On Tuesday, Oct. 8 the Friars took down New England Rival UConn, 2-1, in overtime. Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) scored the golden goal, which marked his third goal of the season. Previously, they lost to Butler, 3-1, on Oct. 4. 

Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) leads the team in points with 12 on four goals and four assists. Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) is not far behind with nine points from three goals and three assists. Davock has tallied eight points on three goals and two assists. Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) and Lima have recorded seven points on the season. Wolf has accumulated six points with three assists and a goal. In goal, Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) has started every game for the Friars. He has a 0.88 goals against average and a .721 save percentage.

Outshooting Opponents
Providence has outshot its opponents 229-78 throughout the season. The Friars held the Golden Eagles to two shots on Oct. 12.  

 Preseason Poll and Awards 
Tiago Mendonca was voted to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team entering the 2019 season. In the coaches poll, the Friars were picked to finish third in the conference standings. Georgetown, the reigning tournament champion, was selected to finish first with nine first place votes (81 points). Creighton, who finished first in regular season play last season, was picked second (68 points). Providence (65 points), Marquette (59 points) and Xavier (44 points) round out the top half of the poll. Butler (40 points), St. John's (33 points), Seton Hall (28 points), DePaul (21 points) and Villanova (11 points) finish out the standings.

The Friars head to Xavier University on Saturday, Nov. 2 for their final road game of the season. The game is set for kick-off at 5:00 p.m. at the XU Soccer Complex in Cincinnati, Ohio.
