NEW BRITAIN, CONN.- The Providence College men's cross-country team captured their third victory of the season at the CCSU Mini Meet today (Oct. 25). Freshman
Nick Braz (Tiverton, R.I.) led the Friars with a second-place finish (14:56.8). The team recorded 42 points and placed first out of 13 teams.
The men made their presence known right from the gun. A strong group of Friars made up of Braz,
Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and
Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) were in the lead pack. Roberto Piotto, from Central Connecticut, took the lead halfway through the race and began to break away from the pack to take the victory. Braz kept his position in the top pack and finished strong in a time of 14:51, five seconds behind Piotto. Braz's time was a personal best.
Following Braz was Gallagher in fourth (15:01.1) and Carleo in fifth (15:01.8).
Liam Harris (Douglas, County Cork, Ireland) and
Owen Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.) completed the top five for the Friars, finishing 15
th (15:13.6) and 18
th(15:18.9), respectively.
In the sub-varsity 5k race,
Connor Visnic claimed first (15:26.5) and the Friars finished second overall (30 points).
The Friar men toe the line next on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 12:00 p.m. ET in Kenosha, Wis. for the BIG EAST Championships.
