Addison Root and Allison Barber each recorded double-doubles.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell to Xavier in four sets. The Musketeers claimed the first set, 25-19, before the Friars tied the match by winning the second set, 25-21. Xavier went on to win the third and fourth set to take the match (25-18, 25-14). Providence falls to 5-15 (0-7 BIG EAST) and Xavier improves to 7-10 (4-3 BIG EAST).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Musketeers opened the set with a 7-3 run. The Friars came within one, four different times in the set but the Musketeers continued to hold them off. Xavier won the set, 25-19.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Friars with four kills on six total attacks and a .667 hitting percentage.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) registered a set-high 10 assists to go with five digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence started the set strong with a 4-1 run. Xavier tied the set up at 12. The remainder of the set went back and forth before the Friars went on a 6-2 run to break the tie at 19 and win the set, 25-21.
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) paced the set with five kills on nine total attacks (.444 hitting percentage) to go with seven digs.
Barber registered eight assists and five digs.
Providence held Xavier to a .087 hitting percentage.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: This set was back and forth with the Friars claiming a short three-point lead (11-8). Xavier went on a set-changing 12-3 run to take the lead and create distance in the set, 20-14. The Musketeers went on to win the set, 25-18.
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) recorded a team-high four kills on 11 total attacks.
Barber tallied eight assists and four digs.
Natalie Benson (Bourbonnais, Ill.) register a set-high five digs.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: The score was tied at eight before Xavier went on a 6-1 run, forcing a Providence timeout (14-9). The Musketeers held the Friars off the rest of the set and won, 25- 14.
Root had team-highs three kills and seven digs.
Barber recorded four assists and five digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Root registered her sixth double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Root is now 12 kills away from 1,000 on her career.
Barber claimed her 16th double-double of the season with 30 assists and 19 digs.
Alderson recorded 10 kills on 20 total attacks with a .400 hitting percentage.
Four Friars tallied double-digit digs.
As a team, the Friars had 46 kills on 155 total attacks, 74 digs, 46 assists and six total team blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence returns to Alumni Hall to take on the Butler Bulldogs on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m. The match against the Bulldogs will be the Friars' annual Pink Out Friartown match
