MADISON, Wis. - The Providence College women's cross-country team finished 26
th of 36 teams at the 2019 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis. on Oct. 18. The Friars ran against 17 nationally-ranked teams including No. 1 Arkansas, tied-No. 4 New Mexico, tied-No. 4. Stanford, No. 6 Utah, No. 9 North Carolina State and No. 10 Michigan State.
Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) led the Friars with a 26
th place finish (20:28.1).
With such a deep field, Wheeler got out well and positioned herself within the lead group. The lead pack of 10 made a move at 3,000 meters. Wheeler stayed in the lead pack until 4,000 meters, where she fell out of the pack. The senior finished in 26
th place with a time of 20:28.1. Wheeler improved from a 37
th place finish last year.
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) was the second Friar to cross the line in 60
th place (20:53.5). Coffin improved her placement by 14 spots and made a six-second improvement on her time from last season. Freshman
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) finished in 88
th place (21:14.5).
The Friar women head to Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, Nov. 2 for the BIG EAST Championships at 11:00 a.m. ET.
