Field Hockey Tops New Hampshire, 4-1

Four different Friars found the back of the cage; Lydia Rice collected five saves.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College field hockey team defeated New Hampshire, 4-1, in non-conference action at Lennon Family Field on Oct. 13. Providence improved to 8-5 overall, while the Wildcats dropped to 7-6.
 
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
• After a scoreless first quarter, Providence broke into the scoring column with two goals in the second frame.
 
Sydney Cramer (Sciota, Pa.) netted her second goal of the year on a reverse shot from the left side of the circle. The marker was assisted by Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) at came at the 17:29 mark.
 
Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) gave Providence a 2-0 lead with her team-leading eighth goal of the season, unassisted. She picked up a loose ball after a blocked shot on a corner and fired it into the back of the cage.
 
• New Hampshire cut the deficit to one (2-1) at 34:05 in the third quarter. Bailey Fanikos carried the ball into the left side of the circle and cashed in on a back-handed shot.
 
• The Friars picked up two unanswered goals in the fourth quarter during a span of 1:01 to earn the 4-1 victory.
 
• O'Reilly took advantage of a turnover deep inside UNH's defensive zone and carried the ball into the right side of the circle before firing off a low shot that beat the goalkeeper. It marked her third goal of the season and came at the 52:51 mark.
 
Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) registered her first goal of the season at 53:52, as she carried the ball 60 yards into the top of the circle, unmarked, and scored on a reverse stick attempt.
 
• The Friars out-shot the Wildcats, 14-9, including an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. 
 
• New Hampshire earned four penalty corners, compared to three offensive corners for the Friars.
 
Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) collected five saves in goal for the victory, while her counterpart Jemma Woods stopped seven shots.
