PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team comes home to host Marquette University this Saturday, Oct. 12. The match is set for kick-off at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.

Scouting the Golden Eagles
Marquette recently improved to 5-5-1 on the season on a 6-1 win over Green Bay on Tuesday, Oct 8. The Golden Eagles lost to St. John's, 4-0, at home on Friday, Oct. 4 in their third conference game of the season. They have a 1-2 record in BIG EAST play. They previously lost to Saint Louis at home, 6-2 (Oct. 1). On Sept. 27 the Golden Eagles were able to defeat Xavier, 2-1. 10 players have accumulated points for Marquette. Josh Coan leads the way with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Patrick Seagrist has eight points and leads the team in assists (eight). Connor Alba and Christian Marquez have contributed with seven points each. Manuel Cukaj rounds out the top half with six points from three goals. Redshirt freshman Jackson Weyman has started nine games for the Golden Eagles. He has a 1.49 goals against average and a .702 save percentage.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are coming off a win on the road to improve their record to 7-4-0. On Tuesday, Oct. 8 the Friars took down New England Rival UConn, 2-1, in overtime.
Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) scored the golden goal which marked his third goal of the season. Previously, they lost to Butler, 3-1, on Oct. 4 which dropped their league play record to 1-2. The Friars took on No. 2 Georgetown for their second BIG EAST game of the season and fell short, 2-1. Previously, Providence was coming off a four-game win streak at home including wins over Brown, 1-0, and Seton Hall, 1-0, in their BIG EAST home-opener of the season. On Wednesday, Sept. 25
Ramzi Qawasmy scored the game winning goal in the 77
th minute which marked his first career goal. On Friday, Sept. 20
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) scored the game-winning goal in the 26
th minute on a header from
Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) against Seton Hall . On Monday, Sept. 16 the Friars had a 1-0 win over Harvard University.
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) scored the game winning goal in the 21
st minute from
Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) and
Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.). On Saturday, Sept. 14 the Friars defeated Sacred Heart, 4-0. Four different players scored for the Friars. Smith scored his second goal of the year on a header and has tallied seven points on the season.
Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) scored his first career goal to put the Friars ahead, 4-0.
Serrano leads the team in points with 11 on four goals and three assists. Davock has tallied up eight points on three goals and two assists. Chisholm and Smith have both recorded seven points on the season. Lima has scored two goals giving him four points. In goal,
Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) has started every game for the Friars. He has a 0.94 goals against average and a .706 save percentage.
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence's roster welcomes eight newcomers to the squad for the 2019 season. Four of the nine have seen action for the Friars. Transfers,
Trevor Davock and
Davis Smith have both started for Friars and lead the team in points.
Austin Aviza has started all 11 games in net and has recorded six shutouts on the season.
Esben Wolf (Copenhagen, Denmark) has started every game and leads the team in assists (four).
Gage Raftery (Seattle, Wash) has also seen minutes for the Friars.
Outshooting Opponents
Providence has outshot their opponents 186-65 throughout the season. The Friars held Butler to seven shots in their last BIG EAST match-up.
One-Goal Games
Through 11 games, eight of the Friars' contests have been decided by just one goal. Four of those seven have been wins, including the recent 2-1 victory over UConn (Oct. 8).
Preseason Poll and Awards
Tiago Mendonca was voted to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team entering the 2019 season. In the coaches poll, the Friars were picked to finish third in the conference standings. Georgetown, the reigning tournament champion, was selected to finish first with nine first place votes (81 points). Creighton, who finished first in regular season play last season, was picked second (68 points). Providence (65 points), Marquette (59 points) and Xavier (44 points) round out the top half of the poll. Butler (40 points), St. John's (33 points), Seton Hall (28 points), DePaul (21 points) and Villanova (11 points) finish out the standings.
Up Next
The Friars head on the road to DePaul University on Saturday, Oct. 19. The game is set for kick-off at 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Wish Field in Chicago, Ill. The squad will stay on the road and travel to Villanova University on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The afternoon match will start at 3:00 p.m. in Villanova, Pa.
