PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – The Providence men's soccer team took down the Marquette Golden Eagles Saturday, Oct. 12 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Davis Smith (Medway, Mass.) scored his third goal of the season and Esben Wolf (Copenhagen, Denmark) tallied his first career goal.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Just 10 minutes in, Marquette's Manuel Cukaj received a red card for tackling Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) who had a clear run for the goal. This made the Golden Eagles play with 10 players for the rest of the match.
- Christopher Roman (Glastonbury, Conn.) gave the Friars their first chance to score in the 13th minute. He took a shot from just outside the box that the keeper was able to corral in the bottom right corner of the goal.
- In the 40th minute, Smith put the Friars up 1-0. Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) took the ball up the pitch to Roman on the right side. Roman crossed the ball into the 6-yard box that Smith was able to finish in the corner of the goal.
- Wolf gave the Friars a 2-0 cushion in the 58th minute on his first career goal. Wolf found his opportunity with the keeper out of the net and was able to intercept his pass and score with his left foot.
- In the 59th minute Marquette had a chance to score off a header taken by Josh Hancock. Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) made the save keeping the Friars edge over the Golden Eagles.
- Providence outshot Marquette, 25-2 and held the advantage in corner kicks, 11-2.
- Aviza recorded his seventh shutout of the season.

1-0 (PC) – 39:53/1st – Davis Smith (Roman, Mendonca) – Smith scored inside the 6-yard box on a cross from Roman from the right side.
2-0 (PC) – 57:56/2nd – Esben Wolf – Wolf picked off the pass from Stern who was out of the net and allowed him to score.

The Friars head on the road to DePaul University on Saturday, Oct. 19. The game is set for kick-off at 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Wish Field in Chicago, Ill. The squad will stay on the road and travel to Villanova University on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The afternoon match will start at 3:00 p.m. in Villanova, Pa.
