Men’s Cross Country To Compete At New England Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's cross-country team travels to Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. for the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 12 at noon. 
 
Juniors Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and David Rosas (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) will lead the Friars at the line. The Friar men won their season opener as a team at the UNH Tri Meet, and placed 12th at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
 
Rocha won his sole race of the season (UNH Tri Meet) with a 5k time of 15:03.63. Rocha won the race by 3.6 seconds after outkicking a UNH runner in the last 1,000 meters. The victory earned the junior his first career collegiate victory and BIG EAST Cross-Country Male Athlete of the Week honors (Sept. 4).
 
Rosas returns to Franklin Park after posting a 24th place finish overall (24:53), in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown 8k race on Sept. 20. He was the first Friar to cross the line and improved eight spots from last year's race at Franklin Park. His finish earned him BIG EAST Cross-Country Male Athlete of the Week honors (Sept. 25).
