PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College volleyball defeated DePaul at home on Sept. 23 at Alumni Hall. With the win the Friars are now 7-6 on the season and are 1-1 in BIG EAST play.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- After a back and forth battle with the Blue Demons, the Friars drop the first set 28-26.
- The Friars tallied two total team blocks.
- Impellizeri recorded a .667 hitting percentage in the first set.
- Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) contributed to the Providence offense with 12 assists, leading all players in the set.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence fell short late in the second set, 26-24.
- The Friars recorded four total team blocks.
- Impellizeri and Alderson led the Friars' offense with four kills apiece.
- Barber tallied 10 assists, to lead all players in the set.
- Taylor led the Friars' defense, totaling seven digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars went on a 6-1 scoring run early in the third set and never looked back.
- Providence won the set 25-15, holding DePaul to a .114 hitting percentage.
- Root led the Friars' attack with six kills (.357 pct.), while Alderson added four kills (.500 pct.).
- Barber recorded nine assists to lead all players in the set.
- Barber and Taylor led the Providence defense with five and four digs, respectively.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars take the fourth set, 25-19.
- Providence held DePaul to a .075 hitting percentage.
- Root and Impellizeri led the Providence offense with four and three kills apiece.
- Barber tallied 11 assists to lead all players in the set.
- Alderson led the Friars' defense with seven digs.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence won the fifth set 15-10.
- The Friars held the Blue Demons to .050 hitting percentage.
- Impellizeri led the Friars on offense with four kills and the match winning block.
- Barber contributed to the Providence attack with five assists to lead all players in the set.
- Alderson led the defense for the Friars with three digs.
MATCH NOTES:
- The Friars came back from a two-set deficit to win the match 3-2.
- As a team, Providence recorded 75 digs, 61 kills, 55 assists and 13 total team blocks.
- Root led the Friars' offense recording 19 kills, while Impellizeri not far behind with 18 kills.
- Impellizeri set a new career high in kills (18) to top her previous record of 16.
- Alderson recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 17 digs.
- Barber tallied a total of 47 assists to lead all players in the match.
- Taylor led the Friars on defense with 21 digs.
