Friars fell to ODU in their BIG EAST opener, 6-1.

EASTON, PA. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to 15th-ranked Old Dominion, 6-1, in its BIG EAST opener on Sept 14 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.  The Friars fell to 3-5 overall (0-1 BIG EAST), while Old Dominion improved to 7-0 (1-0 BIG EAST) and remained one of seven teams in NCAA Division I who are unbeaten in 2018.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS & NOTES
- The 15th-ranked Monarchs held a 12-0 advantage in shots and 6-0 edge in corners during the first half and mounted a 3-0 lead heading into the break.

- ODU's Erin Huffman scored two of the Monarchs' three goals in the opening half

- Junior Kara Sanford (Hazleton, Pa.) got the Friars on the board at 40:50 as she tipped in a goal off a direct shot on a penalty corner.  Assists were awarded to Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) and Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.).

- Old Dominion continued to apply offensive pressure, scoring three unanswered goals to end the game.  - Rebecca Birch scored two of ODU's goals and Huffman added another to complete the hat trick.
