PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College volleyball beats Fairleigh Dickinson in straight sets on the second day of the 14
thAnnual Friar Classic (Sept. 1). With the win the Friars improve their record to 3-2.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars won a back and forth first set 25-22.
- Root recording a positive hitting percentage in the first set (.625).
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence went on a 10-3 streak to take set two, 25-19.
- The Friars recorded a .405 hitting percentage in set 2.
- Impellizeri lead the Providence attack with five kills.
- Barber contributed to the Friars attack with 15 assists.
- Taylor and Barber both recorded four digs each.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars went on a 15-1 run to dominate set three, 25-10.
- Providence totaled six team blocks in set three alone.
- Impellizeri and Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) lead the Friars in kills with four apiece.
- Barber again set the Friars offense with nine assists in the third set.
MATCH NOTES:
- The Friars held the Knights to a .074 hitting percentage throughout the match.
- As a team, Providence recorded 50 kills, 45 assists, 49 digs, and nine total team blocks.
- The Friars had two players with double digit kills with Impellizeri (15) and Root (12).
- Barber tallied a total of 36 assists to lead all players in the match.
- Providence had two players with double digit digs with Taylor recording 19 and Mason recording 10.
- Impellizeri totaled four block assists in the victory.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence will return to action tonight for the final match of the 14
thAnnual Friar Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Friars will face Brown at 5:30 p.m., followed by a match-up against Brown at 5:30 p.m.
