Women’s Soccer Drops Game One Of The Duke/Nike Classic 1-0 To No. 3 North Carolina

The Tar Heels scored the game winner in the 40th minute.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team dropped their first game of the season to No. 3 North Carolina, 1-0, on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Friars had a strong defensive first half before letting up a late goal in the 40th minute to Julia Ashley. Sophomore Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass) made numerous saves to keep the Friars in the game.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) notched four saves in the first half before giving up a goal in the 40th minute to Julia Ashley. The goal was her first of the season; assisted by Alessia Russo.
- The Tar Heels led in shots in the first half, 9-4. They also led in corner kicks, 6-0.
- Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) led the Friars in shots with three. 
- Hogan finished the afternoon with six saves. On the other side, Samantha Leshnak had one save in the first half. Claudia Dickey took over in the second half and did not record a save.
