Friars will return home to host the 14th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic.
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Providence College volleyball defeated Hartford in straight sets on Aug. 25 to conclude play at the Boston College Invitational. Â
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars earned a 25-18 victory in the opening set.
-Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) set the tone early for the Friars as she collected six of her 10 kills in the match during the first set. She was nearly perfect as she was set up seven times and committed just one error. Â
- Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) added four kills in the first set.
- As a team, Providence hit .464 in the opening set.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence kepts in rolling in the second set, earning another 25-18 victory.
- Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) and Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) each recorded three kills.
- Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) played a critical role in the set, reeling off four-consective service aces.
- Providence recorded a total of six service aces in the set.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars claimed the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set.
- Schaible paced the team with five kills.
- Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) notched double-digits with 10 digs in the third set, enroute to a season-high 24 for the match.
MATCH NOTES:
- Impellizeri hit .471 for the match with a team-best 10 kills for Providence. Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) each added nine kills in the victory.
- Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a season-best 24 digs and has led the Friars with double-digit digs in each of her first three matches with the program.
WHAT'S NEXT:
Providence will return home to Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium to host the 14th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Fairleigh Dickinson and Brown will open the tournament at 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 31, followed by a match between UMass Lowell and Providence at 7:00 p.m.
