Providence College Ranked 107th In Final Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

The Friars ranked fifth among NCAA Division I non-FBS/FCS schools and third among BIG EAST members.

Providence College finished the 2017-18 sports calendar ranked 107th in the final Learfield Directors' Cup standings with 170 points.  The final standings were released upon the conclusion of the NCAA College World Series [baseball] on June 29. The Friars are ranked fifth among NCAA Division I non-FBS/FCS institutions (non-football playing schools), and also ranked third among BIG EAST Conference members. Throughout the year, Providence College earned points in women's cross country, women's indoor track, men's basketball and men's ice hockey.

The Friars ranked fifth among NCAA Division I non-FBS/FCS institutions behind Denver (47th), Pepperdine (89th), Cal State Fullerton (98th) and San Francisco (105th).  Providence also ranked third among BIG EAST Conference full-time institutions.  Villanova finished 65th, while Georgetown placed 93rd in the rankings.

Providence's women's cross country team earned it's 58.50 points by virtue of its 16th place team finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.  During the women's indoor track season, junior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and advanced to the final, where she placed sixth overall in a time of 4:34.93 and earned First-Team All-America honors.  For her efforts, Providence College earned 26.50 points in the standings for the Learfield Directors' Cup.

The men's basketball program posted a 21-14 overall record advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a program-record fifth-consecutive season.  Providence entered tournament play as a No. 10 seed and fell to No. 7 seed Texas A&M, 73-69.  The Friars earned 25 points for their First-Round appearance.

The Providence College men's ice hockey program also made its fifth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and earned the College 60 points in the Learfield Directors' Cup Standings.  The Friars' five-straight NCAA appearances is the second-longest active streak in the nation.  Providence earned the No. 7 seed in the Tournament overall and defeated 10th-seeded Clarkson, 1-0, in the opening game of the East Regional on March 23.  The Friars fell to No. 2 seed and eventual NCAA runner-up Notre Dame, 2-1, in the East Regional Final on March 24.

Last year, Providence finished 79th in the Learfield Directors' Cup final standings. It marked the 13th time that the Friars finished inside the top-100, since the program began in 1993-94.
