The Providence College Friars traveled to New Rochelle, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 2 to compete in a meet against the Iona College Gaels. The Friar women were defeated, 175-123. The men's meet was not decided until the final relay of the day, ultimately ending in a Friar loss, 146.5-133.5.
Freshman
Justin Viotto (Morristown, N.J.) left his mark early and often, placing first in each of his individual races. Viotto swam the 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, and the 500-yard freestyle finishing with respective times of 9:51.81, 1:54.86, and 4:46.82.
Senior
Ryan Trammell (Lake Mary, Fla.) notched two first place finishes; the 100-yard breaststroke (59.60) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.39).
Junior
Patrick Brannigan (Darien, Conn.) was first to the wall in the 50-yard freestyle, besting the crowd with a time of 21.95.
On the diving board, Freshman
Griffin Conley (Falmouth, Maine) was the lone competitor for the men. He earned 18 points for the Friars with his first-place finishes in the 1-meter diving event (184.65) and the 3-meter diving event (168.52).
On the women's side, freshman
Kathryn Presley (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.93, good enough for first.
Seniors
Madeline Snow (Bethany, Conn.) and
Kathryn DeSernia (Wyckoff, N.J.) each earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.69) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.64), respectively.
The Friars swept the diving events with freshman
Taylor Barber (Niskayuna, N.Y.) winning the 1-meter dive (231.30) and junior
Avery Pisani (Duxbury, Mass.) taking the 3-meter dive (249.07).
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 3 to face Fairfield University. The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start in Fairfield, Conn.
