The Friars are outlasted by the Gaels in the first of a two-meet weekend road trip.

The Providence College Friars traveled to New Rochelle, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 2 to compete in a meet against the Iona College Gaels. The Friar women were defeated, 175-123. The men's meet was not decided until the final relay of the day, ultimately ending in a Friar loss, 146.5-133.5.

Freshman Justin Viotto (Morristown, N.J.) left his mark early and often, placing first in each of his individual races. Viotto swam the 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, and the 500-yard freestyle finishing with respective times of 9:51.81, 1:54.86, and 4:46.82.

Senior Ryan Trammell (Lake Mary, Fla.) notched two first place finishes; the 100-yard breaststroke (59.60) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.39).

Junior Patrick Brannigan (Darien, Conn.) was first to the wall in the 50-yard freestyle, besting the crowd with a time of 21.95.

On the diving board, Freshman Griffin Conley (Falmouth, Maine) was the lone competitor for the men. He earned 18 points for the Friars with his first-place finishes in the 1-meter diving event (184.65) and the 3-meter diving event (168.52).

On the women's side, freshman Kathryn Presley (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.93, good enough for first.

Seniors Madeline Snow (Bethany, Conn.) and Kathryn DeSernia (Wyckoff, N.J.) each earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.69) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.64), respectively.
