Kick Off
The Friars will kick off against the St. John's Red Storm for the second-consecutive game on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
BIG EAST Quarterfinals All-Time
The Friars have played in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal Round 12 times. They hold a 8-4 record. Of the eight wins, three came by way of penalty kicks. Last season, Providence (No. 5 seed) played a quarterfinal game at Xavier (No. 4 seed) and fell 3-0.
Last Time Against St. John's
The Friars and Red Storm played just a few days ago (Oct. 31) in the regular season finale. Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 14th minute. Providence outshot St. John's 9-7, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on frame. Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) made three saves in his eighth shutout of the season, and sixth of BIG EAST play.
Providence in the Regular Season
The Friars finished the regular season with a 9-6-2 mark and 6-2-1 BIG EAST record. Providence finished in a tie with Georgetown for second place, but due to the loss to the Hoyas earlier this season, the Friars are the No. 3 seed.
Scouting the Friars
Mendonca leads the Friars in points (ten) and goals (five). Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) is close behind with seven points on three goals and an assist. Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) has six points (one goal, four assists). Freshman Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) has two goals, an assist and five points. In net, Miller holds a 0.96 goals against average and a .738 save percentage. He's started all 17 games and has eight shutouts.
Stacking Up Shutouts
Providence has eight total shutouts this season, including six in BIG EAST play. The team had a 463:59 minute streak of holding league opponents scoreless earlier this season. The Friars compiled four-straight league shutouts during that span. More recently, Providence ended the regular season with two straight shutouts. The current clean sheet streak is 185:00.

Through 17 games, 12 of the Friars' contests have been decided by just one goal. Eight of those twelve have been wins.
Free Soccer

BIG EAST Awards
Five Friars earned All-BIG EAST Awards, as announced by the league on Nov. 2. Tiago Mendonca was named to the First Team, while Colin Miller and Klisman Sousa (Sal, Cape Verde) picked up Second Team honors. Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsale, Pa.) and Gil Santos were both named to the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team. Providence has now had at least one First Team selection in four-consecutive seasons. The squad has had at least one Freshman Team member in the six-straight seasons.
Friars Vs. Ranked Opponents
Providence has picked up victories over two top-25 opponents so far this season. The Friars defeated then-No. 8 SMU in double overtime, 2-1 (Aug. 24). Providence also took down then-No. 22 Xavier by a score of 2-0 (Sept. 29). More recently, the Friars battled to a 0-0 tie at No. 8 Creighton (Oct. 20) and fell to No. 24 Georgetown, 2-1 (Oct. 24).
Freshmen Impact
The Friars' roster features ten newcomers for the 2018 season. Six of the ten have seen action for the Friars. Ramzi Qawasmy has started all 17 games at center back, totaling 1,603 minutes on the season. Chisholm has made six starts and 14 total appearances. He was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after a three-point weekend (Sept. 10).
Santos has come alive in league play, making eight of his ten appearances in BIG EAST games. He's scored three goals and added one assist. Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.), Raimondo Partito (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Christopher Roman (Glastonbury, Conn.) are the other Friars who have seen time on the pitch. Vang has made seven starts in 15 appearances, while Partito and Roman have each come off the bench. Roman earned his first career point by assisting the overtime game-winner against Villanova (Oct. 27).
Scouting the Red Storm
St. John's finished the regular season with a 7-7-3 overall record and a 3-3-3 record in conference play. Before falling to the Friars, the Red Storm earned a big victory over then-No. 24 Georgetown (Oct. 27). Skage Simonsen scored the lone goal in the 1-0 victory. For the season, the Red Storm are 3-2-2 on the road. The squad averages 1.06 goals per game and 11.6 shots per game.
Johnnies to Watch
Junior Matt Forster and freshman Skage Simonsen have sixteen points apiece on six goals and four assists. Tani Oluwaseyi is the other St. John's player in double-digit points (ten). He has four goals and two assists. In net, senior Lenny Wilson has played 12 games. He holds a 1.17 goals against average and a .786 save percentage. On Monday (Oct. 29), he was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. He made 15 total saves last week, including seven in his fourth shutout of the season against Georgetown.
