Volleyball Travels To Seton Hall and St. John’s

The Friars will face the Pirates and the Red Storm on the road this weekend.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  The Providence College volleyball team is set to face Seton Hall and St. John's on the road. This marks the second time this season that the Friars will match up with the Pirates and Red Storm. The Friars will start the weekend with a match against Seton Hall on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. (ET) in South Orange, N.J. Providence will then finish weekend play with a match against St. John's on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 5:00 p.m. (ET) in Queens, N.Y.
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars head into the weekend with an overall record of 8-15 and a BIG EAST record of 2-10. The Friars are coming off a big win against DePaul last Friday (Oct. 26). Providence took the match in straight sets to record their second BIG EAST victory of the season. The Friars fell short on Saturday (Oct. 27) against No. 18 Marquette, 3-0. Providence is looking to claim another BIG EAST win on the road this weekend.
 
Providence has three different players with over 200 kills. Junior Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) has a been the strong force for the Friars' attack, especially in BIG EAST match-ups. Root has averaged 14 kills in the last 10 BIG EAST matches and has recorded 261 kills on the season. Her 3.14 kills per set ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Root has also tallied 22 service aces. Earlier this season against St. John's and Seton Hall Root recorded 16 and 19 kills, respectively. 
 
Senior Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) has a total of 257 kills and a hitting percentage of .333, ranking her fifth in the conference. Impellizeri's 3.14 kills per set ranks eighth in the BIG EAST. Earlier this season against St. John's and Seton Hall Impellizeri recorded 13 and 17 kills, respectively. 
 
Junior Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) also has added over 200 kills to the Friars' attack by tallying 212 kills. Alderson has recorded 18 service aces thus far, this season.   
 
Barber has been the setter for the Friars this season, with 841 total assists. Barber's 10.13 assists per set ranks her second in the BIG EAST for the seventh week in a row. She also has contributed 50 kills and 14 service aces to the Providence offense.
 
Freshmen Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.), the Friars' defensive specialist, has been a key player for the Friars. Taylor leads Providence in digs, recording 368 and her 4.43 digs per set ranks sixth in the BIG EAST. Taylor is the only freshman ranked in the top-six for digs.  She has also added 61 assists and eight service aces for the Friars.
 
Contributing to the Providence defense are Barber, Alderson and Root, each recording 209, 192 and 158 digs, respectively. Impellizeri and Schaible are the strong forces on the front line, totaling 66 and 56 blocks apiece.
 
SCOUTING THE PIRATES:The Seton Hall Pirates have an overall record of 8-18 and a BIG EAST record of 3-10. The Pirates are ranked ninth in the conference standings. Seton Hall last played against Xavier and Butler on Oct. 26-27. The Pirates lost both matches, 3-1. 
 
Abby Thelen and Caitlin Koska have been the offensive threats for Seton Hall, recording 331 and 258 kills, respectively. Thelen's 3.60 kills per set ranks fourth in the BIG EAST. Haylee Gasser also has contributed to the Pirates offense recording 148 kills. Gasser's .305 hitting percentage ranks ninth in the conference. Koska and Sophia Coffey have tallied 20 service aces apiece to lead Seton Hall this season. 
 
Coffey and Maggie Cvelbar have been the Pirates' setters for the season. Coffey has totaled 642 assists and her 7.21 assists per set ranks ninth in the BIG EAST. Cvelbar has recorded 309 assists.
 
Eden Dolezal has led the defense for the Pirates tallying 282 digs on the season. Her 4.09 digs per set ranks ninth in the BIG EAST.  Koska has also contributed to Seton Hall's defense with 246 digs, respectively. 
 
On the defensive front line, Haylee Gasser and Amanda Rachwal lead the Pirates in blocks, with 68 and 64. 
 
SCOUTING THE RED STORM: The St. John's Red Storm have an overall record of 20-8 and are 9-4 in the BIG EAST, ranking third in conference standings. St. John's last played against Butler and Xavier on Oct. 26-27.  The Red Storm won both matches.
 
Rachele Rastelli, Efrosini Alexakou and Nina Diaz have been the offensive threats for St. John's, recording 288, 277 and 196 kills, respectively. Diaz's .348 hitting percentage ranks fouth in the BIG EAST. Erica Di Manulo and Amanda Sanabia have tallied 31 and 27 service aces to lead St. John's, thus far, this season. Di Manulo is ranked eighth in the BIG EAST for service aces. 
 
Di Manulo has been the Red Storm's setter for the season. She has totaled 111 assists and her 9.98 assists per set average ranks third in the BIG EAST. 
 
St. John's has a well-balanced defense with five players recording at least 150 digs this season. Amanda Sanabia has led the defense for the Red Storm tallying 587 digs and her 5.19 digs per set ranks second in the BIG EAST. Di Manulo, Lexie Lobdell , Alexakou and Sheena Yoshioka have also contributed to the St. John's defense with 270, 219, 217 and 157 digs, respectively.
 
On the defensive front line, Hanna Wagner leads the Red Storm in blocks (100).
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will return to action at home in Alumni Hall on Nov. 9 and Nov. 11. Providence will face Villanova on Friday, Nov. 9 at 6:00 p.m. (ET) to start the weekend. The Friars will finish the weekend with a match against Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. (ET). The match against Georgetown is the Friars' senior day and the last home match of the season.
