Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) played a long ball over the top, that
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) was able to run onto. He took a touch around the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
- Serrano's assist was his team-leading fourth of the year.
- At halftime, Providence led 4-2 in total shots. The Friars managed to get three on frame, while St. John's only had one on target.

Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) blasted a shot on target that forced Lenny Wilson to tip it over the bar. Serrano served the ensuing corner kick into the box and Wilson was called for a foul that resulted in a penalty kick.

Klisman Sousa (Sal, Cape Verde) stepped up to the spot to take the penalty kick, but was denied by Wilson's diving effort.

Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) made three saves in his eighth shutout of the year. He ties his career-high for shutouts in a season, which he set in 2016.
- Providence compiled six shutouts in nine total BIG EAST games.
- The Friars finish the BIG EAST regular season with a 6-2-1 record. Pending the result from tonight's Creighton/Georgetown game, the Friars will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
- A Georgetown draw or loss guarantees the Friars a bye to the semifinal game, which would be played at home on Wednesday, Nov. 7. If the Hoyas win, Providence will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday, Nov. 3.
