GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Providence scored on its first shot of the game. Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) played a long ball over the top, that Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) was able to run onto. He took a touch around the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
- Serrano's assist was his team-leading fourth of the year.
- At halftime, Providence led 4-2 in total shots. The Friars managed to get three on frame, while St. John's only had one on target.
- In the 56th minute, Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) blasted a shot on target that forced Lenny Wilson to tip it over the bar. Serrano served the ensuing corner kick into the box and Wilson was called for a foul that resulted in a penalty kick.
- Klisman Sousa (Sal, Cape Verde) stepped up to the spot to take the penalty kick, but was denied by Wilson's diving effort.
- Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) made three saves in his eighth shutout of the year. He ties his career-high for shutouts in a season, which he set in 2016.
- Providence compiled six shutouts in nine total BIG EAST games.
- The Friars finish the BIG EAST regular season with a 6-2-1 record. Pending the result from tonight's Creighton/Georgetown game, the Friars will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
- A Georgetown draw or loss guarantees the Friars a bye to the semifinal game, which would be played at home on Wednesday, Nov. 7. If the Hoyas win, Providence will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday, Nov. 3.
