Volleyball Set To Travel To DePaul And No. 18 Marquette

The Providence College Friars are set to play the Blue Demons and Golden Eagles for the second time this season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College volleyball team is set to take on DePaul and Marquette on the road. This marks the second time this season that the Friars will face the Blue Demons and Golden Eagles. The Friars will start the weekend with a match against DePaul on Friday, Oct. 26 at 8:00 p.m. (ET) in Chicago, Ill. Providence will then finish weekend play with a match against No. 18 Marquette on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m. (ET) in Milwaukee, Wis.
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars head into the week with an overall record of 7-14 and a BIG EAST record of 1-9. Providence most recently faced Butler and Xavier on Oct. 18-20. The Friars dropped both matches at home. Providence is looking to claim a BIG EAST victory on the road this weekend.    
 
Providence has two different players with over 200 kills. Junior Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) has a been the strong force for the Friars' attack, especially in BIG EAST match-ups. Root has averaged 14 kills in the last eight BIG EAST matches and has recorded 236 kills on the season. Her 3.06 kills per set ranks ninth in the BIG EAST. Root has also tallied 22 service aces ranking her 10thin the conference. 
 
Senior Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) has a total of 239 kills and a hitting percentage of .321, ranking her seventh in the conference. Impellizeri's 3.10 kills per set ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Juniors Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) have also added over 100 kills to the Friars' attack by tallying 198 and 117 kills, respectively. 
 
Barber has been the setter for the Friars this season with 775 total assists. Barber's 10.06 assists per set ranks her second in the BIG EAST for the sixth week in a row. 
 
Freshmen Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.), the Friars' defensive specialist, has been a key player for the Friars. Taylor leads Providence in digs, recording 340 and her 4.42 digs per set ranks sixth in the BIG EAST. Taylor is the only freshman ranked in the top-six for digs.  She has also added 56 assists for the Friars.
 
Contributing to the Providence defense are Barber, Alderson and Root, each recording 195, 179 and 143 digs, respectively. Impellizeri and Schaible are strong forces on the front line, totaling 56 and 41 blocks apiece.
 
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS: The DePaul Blue Demons have an overall record of 5-16 and are 3-7 in the BIG EAST, ranking eighth in the conference standings. DePaul last played against #18 Marquette on Oct. 19. The Blue Demons fell to the Golden Eagles, 3-0. 
 
Emma Price leads the Blue Demons' attack with 190 kills (2.53 k/s). Claire Anderson and Donna Brown have contributed to the offense, with 136 and 120 kills, respectively. 
Katie Dolan has recorded 12 service aces thus far, this season.
 
Natalie Hayward and Dolan have been the setters for the Blue Demons this season. Hayward has recorded 372 assists, while Dolan is not far behind with 323 assists.
 
Defensive specialist Isabelle Banez leads the Blue Demons in digs (315). Banez's 4.77 digs per set ranks fourth in the BIG EAST. Brown has contributed to the defense with 28 total blocks.     
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:  The No.18 Marquette Golden Eagles have an overall record of 19-4 and are 9-1 in the BIG EAST, ranking second in the conference standings. Marquette has only lost to No.10 Creighton this season. Marquette last played against DePaul on Oct. 19 and Northern Iowa on Oct. 21. The Golden Eagles went 2-0 that weekend.
 
Junior Allie Barber has been the offensive threat for the Golden Eagles recording 337 kills, ranking first in the BIG EAST. Barber's .352 hitting percentage also ranks fourth in the conference. Jenna Rosenthal and Anna Haak have contributed to the Golden Eagles' attack with 197 and 196 kills, respectively. Rosenthal's .364 hitting percentage ranks third in the BIG EAST.
 
Hope Werch has recorded 33 service aces, ranking her first in the BIG EAST. 
 
Lauren Speckman and Sarah Rose have been the Golden Eagles' setters. Speckman has totaled 484 assists and her 7.01 assists per set ranks eighth in the conference. Rose is not far behind with 384 assists.   
 
Martha Konovodoff has played the libero position for the Golden Eagles. Konovodoff has a total of 368 digs on the season and her 4.91 dig per set ranks third in the BIG EAST. On the defensive front lines, Rosenthal leads the Golden Eagles in blocks (78). Her 1.04 blocks per set ranks fifth in the conference.  
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will travel to Seton Hall and St. John's on Nov. 2-3 to continue BIG EAST match-ups.
