PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team travels to play No. 8 Creighton on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8:00 p.m. (ET). Creighton is currently ranked first in the BIG EAST, while the Friars are three points behind in second.

Scouting the Bluejays
Creighton enters the match ranked eighth in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Bluejays have a 9-3-1 overall record and a perfect 5-0-0 record in BIG EAST play. The team is coming off a tough mid-week loss at Akron (1-0). The Bluejays have been shutout in their three losses and lone tie of the season. Highlights on the season include a victory over then-No. 11 Clemson (2-0) and a 3-1 BIG EAST win over then-second place St. John's.
 
Senior Sven Koenig leads the offense with 14 points on seven goals. Classmate Akeem Ward has eight points (two goals, four assists), while junior midfielder Luke Haakenson has six points (two goals, two assists). Four other Bluejays have five points. Freshman Paul Kruse, who's been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week twice this season, has played all 13 games in net. He holds a 0.52 goals against average and a 0.811 save percentage. He leads the BIG EAST in goals against average and is tied for the lead in shutouts (six).
 
Scouting the Friars
Providence is 7-5-1 overall and 4-1-0 in BIG EAST play. The Friars currently sit in second place in league standings. Providence dropped its final non-conference tilt of the season on Tuesday (Oct. 16) at Brown. The Bears scored in the 69th minute en route to a 1-0 victory. Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) led the offensive effort with five shots. Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) made just one save in the loss.
 
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) leads the Friars in points (eight) and goals (four). Santos is close behind with seven points on three goals and an assist. Fellow freshman Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) has two goals, an assist and five points. Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) also has five points (one goal, three assists). In net, Miller holds a 1.11 goals against average and a .700 save percentage. He's started all 13 games and has five shutouts.
 
Shutout Streak
Providence's shutout streak was snapped after 353 scoreless minutes. The Friars had not allowed a goal since Sept. 22 at Butler, but allowed one in the 69th minute at Brown. In BIG EAST play, the Friars have a 284:11 shutout streak and three-straight league shutouts.
 
One-Goal Games
Through 13 games, nine of the Friars' contests have been decided by just one goal. Six of those nine have been wins, including the recent 1-0 victory over Seton Hall (Oct. 12).
 
Free Soccer
Providence has played four overtime games so far this season. All four have reached the second overtime period, with only one ending in a draw. The Friars hold a 2-1-1 overtime record this season, with extra time wins at SMU and Seton Hall.
 
Friars Versus Ranked Opponents
Providence has picked up victories over two top-25 opponents so far this season. The Friars defeated then-No. 8 SMU in double overtime, 2-1 (Aug. 24). Providence also took down then-No. 22 Xavier by a score of 2-0 (Sept. 29).
 
Stacking Up Against the BIG EAST
Providence is currently tied for third in the BIG EAST in shutouts (five) and fourth in shots (178). The Friars are also fourth in corner kicks, averaging 6.00 per game.
 
In terms of individuals, Mendonca ranks tied for eighth in the league in goals with four. Santos is tied for third in game-winning goals (two). In conference games only, Santos is the leader in points per game (1.75) and tied for second in goals per game (0.75). Miller is tied for first in BIG EAST shutouts (three) and ranked fourth in league-play goals against average (0.75).
 
Freshmen Impact
The Friars' roster features ten newcomers for the 2018 season. Six of the ten have seen action for the Friars. Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsdale, Pa.) has started all thirteen games at center back, totaling 1,219 minutes on the season. Chisholm has made six starts and 10 total appearances. He was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after a three-point weekend (Sept. 10).
 
Santos has come alive in league play, making four of his six appearances in BIG EAST games. He's scored three goals and added one assist. He leads the BIG EAST in points per game in conference play (1.75) and is tied for second in goals in conference (three).
 
Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.), Raimondo Partito (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Christopher Roman (Glastonbury, Conn.) are the other Friars who have seen time on the pitch. Vang has made six starts in 12 appearances, while Partito and Roman have each come off the bench.
