PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College volleyball falls to Butler in straight sets at home on Oct. 18 at Alumni Hall. With the loss the Friars are now 7-13 on the season and are 1-8 in BIG EAST play.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars held a 11-6 lead in the first set, but Butler tallied four-straight points to get within one (11-10).
- Providence responded with three-straight points to push the lead back to 14-10, but the Bulldogs answered with a 5-0 scoring run to take a 15-14 lead.
- The two teams battled back-and-forth, and found themselves tied on six occasions down the stretch, with the last at 27-27, but Butler pulled out the 29-27 victory.
- The Friars recorded two total team blocks.
- Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) led the Friars' attack with six kills, to lead all players in the set.
- Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) contributed to the offense tallying 12 assists, to lead all players in the set.
- Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Barber were the strong forces on defense recording five and four digs respectively.
- Alderson's five digs led all players in the set.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence was down most of the second set until they recorded two 3-0 scoring runs late in the set to tie Butler (23-23).
- Butler pulled away edging Providence 25-23.
- Providence recorded three total team blocks.
- Root and Impellizeri led the Friars' offense tallying four and three kills, respectively.
- Barber recorded eight assists in the second set.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars dropped the third set, 25-13.
- Alderson led the Friars' attack recording five kills and a hitting percentage of .400.
- Barber tallied seven assists in the third set.
- Taylor and Impellizeri led the Friars' defense recording four and three digs, respectively.
MATCH NOTES:
- The Friars fell to the Bulldogs in straight sets.
- As a team, Providence recorded 34 kills, 34 assists, 39 digs and six total team blocks.
- Root led the Friars' offense recording 12 kills, to lead all players in the match.
- Alderson was not far behind with 9 kills.
- Barber recorded 28 assists in the match to contribute to the offense.
- Taylor led the Friars on defense with 10 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20 against BIG EAST foe Xavier. The match will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
