TALKING POINTSÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â
- Providence appears in the Ice Breaker Tournament for the first time since 1999, where they defeated Notre Dame before falling to host Denver.
- With the game still scoreless late in the period, Scott Conway got the scoring started on the power play as he re-directed a high-slot pass from freshman Jack Dugan.
- AIC went to the man-advantage late in the period, but it was the Friars who struck as Greg Printz walked in alone and rifled a shot over the blocker of Durante.
- The goal marked Providence's first shorthanded marker since Brian Pinho on Oct. 7, 2016 against Miami.
- Just 36 seconds later, Jacob Bryson wired a slap shot from the point past Durante as the teams skated 4-on-4.
- The Friars nearly added an insurance marker in the third period as freshman Tyce Thompson rang the post off a wrist shot from the left circle.
- Providence killed off all five of AIC's power plays in the game. The Friars finished ranked seventh on the penalty kill nationally last season.
- Freshmen Jay O'Brien, Jack Dugan, Michael Callahan, Tyce Thompson and transfer John McDermott all made their debuts on Saturday night.
- Nate Leaman improved to 7-1-0 in season-openers while at Providence.

SERIES HISTORY VS. MIAMI
• Providence and Miami meet for the seventh-consecutive season.
• The Friars are 6-1-2 against the RedHawks in their last nine meetings. Providence swept the season series last season in Oxford, Ohio. The teams will square off at Schneider Arena in a two-game series from Jan. 4-5, 2019.
 SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
• Miami opened the 2018-19 season with a two-game sweep over Alabama-Huntsville last weekend.
• Florida Panthers prospect Karch Bachman leads the team with three points in two games. Freshman Brian Hawkinson and defensemen Grant Hutton and River Rymsha also totaled three points last weekend. Goaltenders Ryan Larkin and Jordan Uhelski split duties last weekend, each earning a win against Alabama-Huntsville.
 SERIES HISTORY VS. NOTRE DAME
• Should these teams meet on Saturday, the Friars will seek to avenge their 2-1 setback to the Irish at the NCAA East Regional Final last month.
• Overall, Providence is winless against Notre Dame in its last five meetings (0-4-1).
 SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
• Reigning national runner-up Notre Dame begin the 2018-19 season with a 4-1 exhibition loss to the U.S. National Development Program last Sunday.
• The Irish their top-3 scorers for a year ago, but return a strong group in Cal Burke (14-12-26), Bobby Nardella (5-19-24), Cam Morrison (8-15-23), and Dylan Malmquist (9-11-20).
• In goal, Mike Richter Award winner and Hobey Baker finalist Cale Morris returns after posting a 1.94 GAA and .944 save percentage in 2017-18.
 SERIES HISTORY VS. MERCYHURST
• Should the teams meet on Saturday, it would mark the first meeting all -ime between the two schools.
 SCOUTING THE LAKERS
• Mercyhurst opened up 2018-19 with a 8-2 defeat at the hands of Bowling Green last Saturday.
• Senior Matt Whittaker and junior James Anderson each tallied a goal and an assist against the Falcons last weekend.
• In goal, juniors Garrett Metcalf and Colin DeAugustine each saw time between the pipes. Metcalf, an Anaheim Ducks prospect stopped 18-of-23 shots, while DeAugustine came in relief to stop of 8-of-11 shots.
 ELEVEN GAMES TO AIR ON NBC SPORTS BOSTON
Providence College Athletics announced that NBC Sports Boston, the broadcast home of the Boston Celtics will televise 11 men's hockey home games during the 2018-19 season. Eight of the 11 games will be shown live, while the remaining three games with be tape delayed following the conclusion of Celtics coverage.
ALL GAMES TO AIR LIVE ON NEWSRADIO 104.7 FM
Beginning with the 2018-19 hockey season, all Friars men's hockey games, in addition to all pregame and postgame network programming will be carried live on NewsRadio 104.7 FM. The agreement also includes 10 editions of the Nate Leaman Coaches Show that will air throughout the season. Mike Logan, who is entering his 24th season as the voice of the Friars, will call all the live action this season on 104.7 FM. Logan also will host the Nate Leaman Coaches show on 104.7 FM.
INCOMING CLASS
A promising incoming class boasts three NHL draft picks – Michael Callahan (ARZ), Jack Dugan (VGK), and Jay O'Brien (PHI). O'Brien became just the fourth member of the program to be drafted in the first round of the NHL Draft.
THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
The Friars are 129-12-13 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.

The Friars are 121-5-10 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
