CHICAGO - It was announced by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) on Friday (April 7) at the Frozen Four that former Providence College defenseman Jake Walman was named a CCM Second Team (East) All-American.
Walman is the lone repeat All-American from 2015-16 and is the sixth Friar ever to be named a two-time All-American. Walman joins Ron Wilson '77 and Peter Taglianetti '86 as the only Providence defensemen to be a two-time All-American selection.
On March 28, Walman signed a three-year entry-level contract with the St. Louis Blues and reported to the Chicago Wolves (AHL) after signing an Amateur Try-Out Agreement (ATO) with the club. Walman tallied his first professional goal with the Wolves last Sunday.
A third round draft pick of the Blues in 2014 (82nd overall), Walman earned First Team Hockey East All-Star accolades for the second consecutive season after posting seven goals and 18 assists for the Friars in 2016-17. A reigning First Team All-American, Walman amassed 21 goals and 48 assists for 69 points in 107 career games at Providence.
As a sophomore in 2015-16, Walman led all NCAA defensemen in goals (13), points per game (1.04), power play goals (8), and game-winning goals (4) in just 27 games played.
