Sept. 7, 2016 Final Stats
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team defeated crosstown rival, Brown University, in five sets on Sept. 7., in a back and forth match. The Friars dropped the first set, 19-25, before taking the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-18. The Friars then dropped the fourth set, 14-25. Providence sealed the match victory by winning the fifth and final set, 15-10.
Providence volleyball continues to maintain a balanced offense as the team had multiple Friars with double-digit kill totals. Senior
Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) posted a double-double for the Friars by recording 13 kills, which was tied for the team lead, and 14 digs. Setter
Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) also recored a double-double with 45 assists and 11 digs. Freshman
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) also recorded 13 kills to co-lead the team. Sophomore
Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) and senior
Abigail Dix (Gibsonia, Pa.) also had strong games, recording 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Defensive specialist
Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) recorded 28 digs to lead the Friars' defensive efforts.
Brown's Makena Ehlert recorded a double-double on 15 kills and 11 digs in the loss. Melissa Cairo led Brown's defensive efforts with 24 digs.
Providence is set to host the 12th Annual Friar Classic on Sept. 9-10. Action will start on Sept. 9 with Providence taking on Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m. in Mullaney Gym. Providence will then play La Salle on Sept. 10 at 11:00 a.m., before finishing up tournament play against Quinnipiac at 5:30 p.m.
