Volleyball Hosts DePaul For First BIG EAST Match

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team begins its BIG EAST season with a match against DePaul University on Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Providence has had a strong start to the season, recording a 12-4 record and winning the past three matches. There will be live stats and a live stream for the match. SCOUNTING PROVIDENCE: A key factor to Providence's success thus far has been its attack. The Friars have four players with over 100 kills, led by sophomore Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) with 168 (3.11 kps). Sophomore Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.), senior Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) and freshman Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.) have also had strong seasons recording 129 (2.39 kps), 119 (2.12 kps) and 108 (2.12 kps) kills, respectively. Freshman Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) has been solid as of late, recording 68 kills (2.43 kps).
Junior Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) has been efficient in the setter position, tallying 564 assists (9.89 aps) to this point in the season.
Defensive specialist Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has led the Friars in defense, totaling 308 digs (5.13 dps) this season. Onyundo, Clark and Fitzgerald have also been strong defensively, tallying 139, 137, 120 digs, respectively.
SCOUTING DEPAUL: The DePaul Blue Devils have started their season 6-6. DePaul is on a two match losing streak. This is the Blue Devils' first BIG EAST match of the season.
Brittany Maxwell has been the leading attacker for the Blue Devils, tallying 177 kills (3.69 kps) this season. DePaul's setter has been Colleen Smith, who has totaled 462 (9.83 aps) assists this season. Defensive specialist Lexi Chanos has led the Blue Devils with 144 digs (3.00 dps) this season.
