TAMPA, Fla. - It was announced by the American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA) on Friday (April 8) at the Frozen Four that Providence College sophomore defenseman Jake Walman was named a CCM First Team (East) All-American, while senior forward Mark Jankowski earned Second Team (East) All-American honors.
Walman and Jankowski become the 17th and 18th players in program history to achieve All-American accolades. Both players were also named All-New England All-Stars last week.
In 27 games this season, Walman (Toronto, Ontario) recorded 13 goals and 15 assists. The 28 points rank second in the Hockey East and eighth nationally among defensemen. The sophomore currently tops all NCAA defensemen in goals (13), points per game (1.04), power play goals (8), and game-winning goals (4).
The sophomore becomes the first Friar to be a First Team All-American selection since Chris Terreri and Tim Army in 1984-85.
Walman is just 1-of-4 NCAA defensemen to record a hat trick in 2015-16, as he notched three goals and an assist at Colgate on Oct. 30. His four goals and two assists during that weekend at Colgate netted the sophomore Hockey East Player of the Week, CHN Player of the Week, and NCAA First Star honors.
Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) led the Friars with 40 points (15-25-40) and ranked fifth overall in the Hockey East with 26 points in 22 league games. He became the first Friar to reach the 40-point plateau since Jon DiSalvatore, Devin Rask, and Peter Fregoe all hit the mark in 2002-03. Jankowski also became the 51st member of the program to hit the 100-point milestone.
Last week, the 2012 first round draft choice of the Calgary Flames signed an entry level contract with the team that begins in the 2016-17 season. Jankowski joined Calgary's AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat, for the remainder of this season and has registered an assist in three games thus far. He is the first Friar forward to earn All-American honors since Devin Rask in 2000-01.
