PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College senior defenseman Tom Parisi has signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Montreal Canadiens for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons as announced by General Manager Marc Bergevin today (March 26).
Parisi also signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) with the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the remainder of this season and is expected to join the team in Toronto for Tuesday's game against the Marlies.
A co-captain and mainstay on the Providence blue line, Parisi recorded a goal and 15 assists during the 2015-16 season with the Friars, including a +12 rating while appearing in all 38 games.
Parisi earned 2014-15 NCAA Northeast Regional Team accolades after his game-winning goal against Denver that lifted the Friars to the 2015 Frozen Four. He also notched the game-tying goal in last season's National Championship game against Boston University and his five career NCAA Tournament points place him in the top-10 among active players.
In 144 career games, Parisi has notched 12 goals and 43 assists with a +46 rating. He also led the 2015-16 Friars with 43 blocked shots.
The Commack, New York native appeared in the Canadiens' development camp in July 2015.
