WAKEFIELD, Mass. – It was announced today (Feb. 3) that Providence College senior winger Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.) was named Warrior Hockey East Player of the Month for January. Mingoia earns the first Player of the Month distinction for the Friars since Tim Schaller was recognized for the month of November 2011.

In 24 games this season for the Friars, Mingoia is tied for the team lead with 27 points on eight goals and 19 assists. His 19 assists are a single-season career high and also rank sixth overall in the Hockey East. He boasts seven multi-point efforts this season, including two four-point performances against Miami (Oct. 9) and Vermont (Jan. 16), which earned him Hockey East Player of the Week honors both times.

Over a span of nine games in January, Mingoia tallied 12 points on five goals and seven assists, which was tied for the scoring lead in Hockey East. He notched both game-winning goals in Providence's sweep at Vermont, including the Friars' first shorthanded goal of 2015-16.

On Monday, Mingoia was one of 23 semifinalists announced for the 64th annual Walter Brown Award, given to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. He was also one of 10 repeat semifinalists from a season ago.

Providence will trek north to Orono to battle Maine in a weekend doubleheader at Alfond Arena. Friday night's game will be televised live on Fox College Sports Atlantic beginning at 7:30 p.m.
