WAKEFIELD, Mass. - For the third time this season, Providence College men's hockey winger Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y) was selected as Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week in an announcement made by the league office on Monday (Feb. 29).
On Friday at UMass, Mingoia notched his second shorthanded goal of the season which turned out to be the game-winner in a 4-1 Friar win in Amherst. On Saturday, he became the first player to notch five points in a game since Tim Schaller and Stefan Demopoulos both recorded five points against Northeastern on Feb. 22, 2013. Mingoia figured in on the last five goals in Saturday's 6-0 win versus the Minutemen, totaling two goals and three assists on the night.
Mingoia also earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors on Oct. 12 and Jan. 18 this season, including Hockey East Player of the Month recognition after posting five goals and seven assists in January. He was also named a Walter Brown Award semifinalist for the second consecutive season, an award given to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.
The Friars, after earning the program's first share of the Hockey East title on Saturday, will enjoy a first-round bye in the league playoffs and will host a quarterfinal best-of-three series at Schneider Arena from March 11-13.
