PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated DePaul in BIG EAST Conference play, 87-66, on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

With the win, the Friars improved to 20-9 (8-8 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons moved to 9-19 (3-13 BIG EAST). Today's win marks the 1,400th victory (1,400-939) in the history of the program, it also marks the third consecutive season in which the Friars earned 20 or more wins. The last time the Friars posted three consecutive 20-win seasons was 1997-78 (24-8), 1976-77 (24-5) and 1975-76 (21-11). Providence has recorded 20 or more wins in 26 of its 89 seasons of basketball.

Sophomore Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Del.) scored a game-high 28 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had a career-high five assists. Sophomore Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) added a career-high 16 points, while sophomore Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) scored 14, and sophomore Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) contributed 10. Cartwright added eight assists, two steals, and two rebounds. Lindsey grabbed four rebounds and Bullock grabbed five rebounds.

Early in the first half, the Friars and Blue Demons battled back-and forth, but the Friars pulled ahead going on a 10-4 run to grab nine point advantage, with one minute remaining in the half, 39-30.

The first half ended with Providence leading by six, 39-33. The first half saw five ties and two lead changes. Bentil led-all in scoring for the first half with 12 points, he also grabbed five rebounds and added three assists. Cartwright also contributed 10 points, five assists, two steals, and one rebound.

With 15:29 left in the game, DePaul narrowed Providence's lead to three points, 48-45. The Friars pulled away on a 12-2 run to and held a 60-47 advantage with 12:05 remaining. Bentil fueled the 12-2 as he added seven points. From then on, Providence did not let its lead drop below 11, with its biggest lead of the game of 22 points coming with 1:25 left in the game, 84-62.

Friar junior guard Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) did not start as he was dealing with an illness for the second consecutive game. He played 17 minutes, scored two points and had four assists.

Providence shot 26-of-53 from the field (49%), including 61 percent (14-23) in the second half. Providence outrebounded DePaul, 33-28.

The Friars will return to action on Wednesday, March 2 when they host Creighton at 9:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. It will be the team's final home game of the regular season.
