BOSTON - For the second straight year, Providence College men's hockey winger Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.) was tabbed as a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award in an announcement made by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston on Monday (Feb. 1).

Mingoia was one of 23 semifinalists announced for the 64th annual Walter Brown Award, given to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. He was also one of 10 repeat semifinalists from a season ago.

In 24 games this season for the Friars, Mingoia is tied for the team lead with 27 points on eight goals and 19 assists. His 19 assists are a career high for the senior and also rank sixth overall in the Hockey East. He boasts seven multi-point efforts this season, including two four-point performances against Miami (Oct. 9) and Vermont (Jan. 16), both earning him Hockey East Player of the Week honors. He also notched a career high three assists in Providence's 6-4 win over Ohio State on Oct. 24.

The Walter Brown Award was established in 1953 by the members of the 1933 Massachusetts Rangers, the first American team ever to win the World Championship Tournament. Brown coached the Rangers to the title in Prague, Czechoslovakia, that year as the team defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime in the championship game.

The finalists and winner of the Walter Brown Award will be announced in March, following league playoffs and before the start of NCAA tournament play. The award will be presented to the winner at the New England College Hockey Writers' Dinner in April.

The Friars have had four Walter Brown Award winners in their history - Ron Wilson (1974-75), Tim Army (1984-85), Rob Gaudreau (1991-92), and Mike Omicioli (1998-99).
