Volleyball To Host Georgetown And Creighton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's volleyball team is set to host the Georgetown Hoyas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 at Alumni Hall. The Friars will finish the weekend at 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 3 against the Creighton Bluejays. The Friars' match versus Georgetown will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN). SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Friars opened BIG EAST play at Xavier (Sept. 25) and Butler (Sept. 26), and fell 3-0 in both matches. The Friars enter the weekend with a 9-7 overall record (0-2 BIG EAST). Marina Rose (Coventry, Conn.) led the Friars against Butler with nine kills and 11 digs. Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) leads Providence defensively, totaling 212 digs. Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has notched 512 assists and is third on the team in digs, with 121. Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) is tops among his teammates in kills, with 192.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Georgetown Hoyas enter the second weekend of BIG EAST play with a 6-9 overall record and a 0-2 mark in conference. The Hoyas opened BIG EAST play, with Villanova on Sept. 25, and fell in straight sets (3-0). The Hoyas followed with a 3-2 loss to Seton Hall on Sept. 27. Georgetown is led by freshman outside hitter Alyssa Sinnette, who has tallied 201 kills and 114 digs on the season. The Hoya's defense is headed by libero Kenzie Higareda, with 253 digs. Freshman setter Paige McKnight has collected 530 assists.

SCOUTING CREIGHTON: The Creighton Bluejays travel to Providence with an 8-7 overall record and 2-0 mark in conference play. The Bluejays were unanimously selected No. 1 in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Creighton defeated Seton Hall (9/25) and Villanova (9/27), with both matches ending in a 3-1 decision. The Bluejays are led by freshman outside hitter Jaali Winters, who has recorded 200 kills and 114 digs on the season. Senior defensive specialist Kate Elman has captured the most digs for the Bluejays, with 213. Sophomore setter Kenzie Crawford has collected 331 assists.
