PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seniors Kevin Rooney and Tom Parisi have been named men's hockey captains for the 2015-16 season in an announcement made by Head Coach Nate Leaman on Friday (Sept. 25). Forwards Nick Saracino and Mark Jankowski will serve as alternate captains.
Rooney and Parisi will be the 97th and 98th players to don the "C" for the Friars.
Rooney (Canton, Mass.) appeared in all 41 games for the Friars last season, posting career highs in goals (7), assists (8), and points (15). The senior elevated his game down the stretch during Providence's championship run, registering a goal and two assists in the final three NCAA Tournament games. His crucial faceoff win led to Brandon Tanev's game-winning strike against Boston University in the National Championship game on April 11.
One of the Providence's key cogs on the blue line, Parisi (Commack, N.Y.) finished first among Friar defenseman in scoring with five goals and 14 assists for 19 points. In 39 contests last season, he finished third on the team in plus/minus (+15) and tied for the team lead with 55 blocked shots. For his efforts during NCAA play, Parisi was named to the NCAA All-East Regional Team after tallying the game-winning goal against Denver in the East Regional Final on March 29.
Saracino (St. Louis, Mo.) and Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) will sport the "A's" on their respective jerseys for the Friars this season. Saracino led the Friars in scoring last season with 38 points, including 10 multi-point games while Jankowski, a first round pick of Calgary back in 2012, chipped in with 27 points and a key game-winning goal against Omaha in the National Semifinal last year.
The quartet headlines a strong returning group of nine seniors that were instrumental in helping the Friars capture the program's first NCAA Championship and score the second most single-season wins in team history (26).
