Providence, R.I. - Providence College men's hockey Head Coach Nate Leaman announced the 2015-16 schedule today (July 30). Coming off the program's first NCAA National Championship, the Friars will play 12 non-conference games and 22 Hockey East contests in the coming year.

The Friars hit the road to open the regular season with a marquee matchup at Miami (Oct. 9-10), as the Friars and RedHawks meet for the fifth-consecutive season. Last season in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional, Providence defeated Miami 7-5 in an eventful game that included three third period, extra-attacker goals by the RedHawks before Brandon Tanev's (Toronto, Ontario) empty net tally sealed the win for the Friars.

Providence will play its first regular-season home game on Friday, Oct. 16 versus Holy Cross in a 7:30 p.m. game that will be preceded by a banner-raising ceremony to celebrate Providence College's 2015 NCAA National Championship.

The Friars will remain at home the following weekend to play a two-game series against Ohio State (Oct. 23-24). The teams split a two-game set at Ohio State last season, with each team winning an overtime contest. Providence closes out October with a two-game set at Colgate (Oct. 30-31).

The Friars open Hockey East play with a home-and-home series against Boston University (Nov. 13-14), with the teams meeting for the first time since Providence knocked-off the No. 1 seeded Terriers, 4-3, in the 2015 NCAA National Championship game at the TD Garden (April 11) to claim the program's first NCAA title. Game one of that series will be played at Schneider Arena, followed by game two at Agganis Arena.

Next, the Friars play a weekend home-and-home Hockey East series with Northeastern (Nov. 20-21). Two of the past three NCAA Champions will meet at Schneider Arena on Nov. 28 when Providence and Yale play for the first time since Nov. 28, 1998. The Friars have won seven straight against Yale, dating back to the 1982 season.

Other first semester games include a weekend home-and-home series with Merrimack (Dec. 4-5) and game one of the Mayor's Cup series with Brown on Dec. 10 at Schneider Arena.

The Friars return from break when they take part in the Florida College Hockey Classic for the first time in the 17 editions of the tournament, which is played at the Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. Providence will open the tournament by playing host Cornell on Dec. 28. The other two teams in the 2015 field will include Boston College and Ohio State. The second set of tournament games will be played on Dec. 29. Providence opens 2016 by closing out the two-game Mayor's Cup series at Brown (Jan. 3), which will be played for the 30th time (the second consecutive season as a two-game series).

The Friars finish the season with 16-consecutive Hockey East games, including a home-and-home series versus Boston College (Jan. 8-9), two games at Vermont (Jan. 15-16), a home-and-home series with UMass Lowell (Jan. 22-23), two home games against New Hampshire (Jan. 29-30), a pair of road games at Maine (Feb. 5-6), a home-and-home series with Connecticut (Feb. 12-13), two home games against Notre Dame (Feb. 19-20) and a home-and-home series with Massachusetts (Feb. 26-27).

The first round of the Hockey East playoffs will be played March 4-6, followed by the quarterfinals (March 11-13). The TD Garden will, once again, play host the semifinals (March 18) and championship (March 19).
