WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Providence College men's hockey forward Trevor Mingoia was named Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week in an announcement made by the league office on Monday (Oct. 12).
Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.) was instrumental in Providence's 7-3 season-opening win on Friday night, posting a career high four points and converting on a penalty shot in the first period. On Saturday, Mingoia followed up that performance with assists on both of the Friars' goals in a 2-2 draw with the host RedHawks. The senior continued his success against Miami, running his totals to 3-5-8 in three career games against the RedHawks. He now has recorded three multi-goal efforts in his career.
The Hockey East Player of the Week honor was the second for Mingoia, who earned the same accolade on Nov. 14, 2014. His six points to start the season are tied for the national lead alongside Colgate's Tyson Spink.
The Friars return home this Friday (Oct. 16) to raise the National Championship banner and kick off the 2015-16 home schedule against Holy Cross beginning at 7:30 p.m.
