PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's soccer was defeated, 4-3, by Siena University on Friday, September 3. The Friars took a 2-0 lead, but Siena would score four straight unanswered goals. Providence would battle back to score another goal late in the game, but would fall just short.
In the 46th minute, the Friars took a 1-0 lead behind freshman Stephanie Leonard's (Framingham, Mass.) second goal of the season. Graduate Student Jill Camburn (Doylestown, Pa.) crossed the ball from the left side of the field to Leonard who buried the ball in the right side of the net. Providence took a 2-0 lead in the 71st minute when sophomore Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.) dribbled through the left side of the defense and finished the ball to the far corner.
Siena University would score two goals in under thirty seconds in the 78th minute to tie the game at 2-2. In the 81st minute, Siena captured the lead when Tabitha Tice scored her second goal of the game. Tice received the ball off of a rebound at the top of the 18-yard box and chipped the ball into the back of the net. Siena's Brittany Pfaff would increase the lead to 4-2 when she received a through ball from Tice and tucked it into the left corner of the net.
Providence made it a 4-3 game when Camburn scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute, but the Friars would fall short. The Friars out shot Siena, 27-16, including a 9-8 edge in shots on goal.
The Friars are back in action on Sunday, September 5, when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on Marist University at 1:00 p.m.
