Fans,
On Saturday, January 23 the athletics department is holding a special event for the jersey retirement of two all-time Friar-greats. The late Helen Bert will be honored for her 17 years of work as PC's Senior Women's Administrator. Bert is known as a pioneer for women's athletics here at PC. Former All-American and BIG EAST Player of the Year, Kathy Finn Hill ('84) will also be honored at the event. The jersey retirement luncheon will take place on campus in '64 Hall at 12:00 p.m. Following the luncheon, the women's basketball team will take on Pittsburgh in Alumni Hall. The jersey retirement ceremony will take place at halftime at that game. I invite everyone to come see this unprecedented event and cheer on the Friars women's basketball team.
In other news, the women's ice hockey program captured its 600th win with a 6-3 victory over No. 8 Cornell on Saturday. With the milestone, Providence becomes just the second program to record 600 all-time wins (UNH being the other). Another milestone win is quickly approaching as Head Coach Bob Deraney is just two wins away from recording his 200th career victory. I congratulate the women's hockey program and Bob for their continued success on the ice.
I will be traveling to Chicago and Milwaukee as the Friar men's basketball team takes on BIG EAST foes DePaul and Marquette. In each city we will be holding fundraising events in order to further support men's basketball and raise capital for the track, soccer and lacrosse complex proposed to be constructed on what is now Hendricken Field. I am looking forward to the fundraisers, as it gives me a chance to meet with PC alumni and talk about the exciting things that are happening here in Friartown. I hope that your New Year is going well.
Go Friars!!
