Senior Weyinmi Efejuku (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) paced the Friars with a career-high 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field. Efejuku scored 26 of his 31 points in the second half.
Senior Geoff McDermott (New Rochelle, N.Y.) got the sell-out crowd of 12,600 into the game with a thunderous dunk that moved the Friars within five at 15-10 five minutes into the game. A 3-pointer by Efejuku got PC to within one at 20-19 but Notre Dame used a barrage of 3-pointers to take a 43-28 lead with 3:47 remaining in the half, part of a 17-7 run for the Irish.
Notre Dame entered the half with a 49-37 advantage. The Irish made 11 3-pointers in the stanza, shooting 61.1 percent from behind the arc. Senior Ryan Ayers led the team with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from 3-point land.
Junior Sharaud Curry (Gainesville, Ga.) paced the Friars with 16 points in the opening half, including a perfect 8-of-8 half from the free throw line.
After the Irish extended their lead by as many as 17 points early in the second half, the Friars used a 7-0 run to move within nine at 59-50 with 13:50 to play. PC could only trade baskets with Notre Dame over the next five minutes and the Irish took a 77-64 lead into a timeout with 7:52 left in the game.
Providence got as close as seven points (61-54 with 12:18 left), but could not cut into the Irish lead any further for the remainder of the game.

Ayers paced the Irish with 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting.
The Friars play their final home game of the 2008-09 season on Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. against the University of Pittsburgh. The team's eight seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
