In the first half, Louisville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. The first goal was scored by Hayley Turner. The shot was put in off a rebound. The second of the two goals was scored by Julie Anne Smith off an assist from Nicole Youman. Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) put the Friars on the board at the 14:19 mark when she scored her fifth goal of the season. Hudson received a pass from the middle of the circle from Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) and was able to put it in the cage. This goal cut the Louisville lead to 2-1. The second goal of the half for the Friars came at the 24:14 mark when Kelly Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) scored her second goal of the season. The first half ended with the game knotted at 2-2.
The game remained close through most of the second half until Smith scored her second goal of the game for the Cardinals. With just under ten minutes to play in the match, this late goal proved to be the game winner for the Cardinals.
Senior goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) recorded seven saves for the Friars.
The Cardinals held the advantage in shots, 14-7 and in penalty corners 14-2.
The Friars return to action at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October, 17 when they face No. 5 Wake Forest at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
