Hamden, Conn. - The Providence College volleyball team concluded play of the Bobcat Invitational with a 3-0 sweep of the host school, Quinnipiac. The Friars won by the scores 33-31, 30-21, and 30-14. Junior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all players with 15 kills and four blocks. Providence pulls to 4-4 with the win while the Bobcats fall to 1-7.
After sneaking by in the first game 33-31 on two consecutive attacking errors by the Bobcats, the Friars took games two and three in convincing fashion. Providence finished game two on a 10-3 run and won game three easily 30-14. "We played really well tonight and our passing was exceptional. Our serve receive was solid and helped propel us to victory," said Head Coach Margot Royer.
Junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) recorded her seventh straight match with double-figure kills with 12. She is now hitting .377 through eight matches. Flynn also was named to the Bobcat Invitational All-Tournament team. Junior Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) was in double-figure digs with a match-high 16 digs. Junior Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had another solid performance with a match-high 30 assists, five aces and 11 digs.
Providence will remain on the road with an away game at Holy Cross on Wednesday, September 12.
