Women's Basketball Falls To Pittsburgh, 84-40

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST Conference foe Pittsburgh, 84-40, on February 3 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Shavonte Zellous led all scorers in the game for Pitt with 29 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the floor. Zellous also dished five assists and grabbed six rebounds. Senior Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) was the lone Friar in double figures with 12 points.
Pitt out-rebounded Providence, 41-21, behind a balanced effort on the boards. Xenia Stewart pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for the Panthers. Stewart and teammate Marcedes Walker each recorded 15 points. Jania Sims handed out a game-high six assists. Pittsburgh scored 27 of their 84 points off of 22 Friar turnovers.
Junior Aga Lorenc and freshman Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) each scored eight points for Providence. Holmes added a team-high four assists. Freshman Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) recorded a team-high six rebounds. Providence rejected eight shots in the game. Lorenc led the way in that category with four blocked shots.
Providence College (12-10, 2-7 BIG EAST) returns to action on Tuesday, February 6 against BIG EAST opponent Cincinnati. The game will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
