Box Score

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Junior Ela Mukosiej (Bialystok, Poland) scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Seton Hall women's basketball team past Providence College on Tuesday night, 60-46. The Pirates (11-8, 3-5) defeated the Friars (12-8, 2-5) for the second time this season.

Senior Heta Korpivaara (Espoo, Finland) registered her second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Catherine Bove led three Friars in double figures with 15 points.

After falling behind 2-0, SHU took control of the action with its suffocating defense. Providence was held without a point for 10:04 while the Pirates built up a 13-2 advantage with under eight minutes to play before halftime. Korpivaara connected on back-to-back three-pointers to stretch the lead to 21-7, Seton Hall's largest lead of the first half. The Friars hit just 6-of-34 shots in the opening stanza and found themselves trailing 28-15 at intermission.

Two Mukosiej jumpers were part of a 13-4 run that saw the Pirates take a 38-19 lead with 15:22 remaining. Providence rallied with eight unanswered, but SHU quickly came up with the answer. Mukosiej capped a 12-2 spurt that gave the Pirates a 50-29 as the clock moved under nine minutes. The final margin of 14 was as close as the Friars would get the remainder of the way.

Seton Hall limited Providence to just 27.5 shooting overall, the lowest it has allowed all season. The Friars made just 4-of-20 shots from beyond the arc. The Pirates enjoyed a 50-35 rebounding advantage against the much taller Providence squad.

Ashley Booker (Oceanside, Calif.), Nicole Emery (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Mukosiej each handed out five assists.

The Pirates return to action this Saturday at Walsh Gymnasium when they host the No. 23 Pittsburgh Panthers at 2:00 p.m.
