Women's Basketball Drops 81-47 Decision At DePaul

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by DePaul, 81-47, in BIG EAST Conference action at McGrath Arena in Chicago, Ill. on January 27. Sophomore Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) recorded a double-double for PC with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Caprice Smith also recorded a double-double on the night for DePaul with 16 points and game-high 17 rebounds. Providence falls to 12-9 overall with the loss and 2-6 in the BIG EAST. The Blue Demons improve to 14-7 (4-4 BIG EAST).
The Blue Demons took a 46-10 lead into the locker room at halftime as the Friars shot just 17.9-percent (5-28) from the field. Meanwhile, DePaul connected on 48.7-percent of it field goal attempts (19-39) en route to its 36-point lead. Three Blue Demons reached double figures in the opening 20 minutes led by Sam Quigley, who netted 11. Senior Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) and freshman Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) each scored four points for PC in the first half.
In the second half, Providence outscored DePaul, 37-35, but the first half of play proved to be costly for the Friars. Snyder finished the game with a team-high 11 points for PC, while Cournoyer completed the night with eight.
Sam Quigley netted a game-high 18 points for DePaul. Also reaching double figures were Allie Quigley (16 points) and Jenna Rubino (14 points). DePaul out-rebounded Providence, 55-29.
Providence College (12-9, 2-6 BIG EAST) returns to action on Saturday, February 3 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
