PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Harvard, 78-67, in non-conference action on Sunday, December 31 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Five Friars reached double figures in the scoring column led by sophomore Catherine Bove (Cincinnati, Ohio) who tallied 19 points.

Freshman Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) registered the first double-double of her collegiate career with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Katie Rollins netted a team-best 14 points for Harvard, who falls to 2-11 overall. Providence improves to 10-4 with the victory, marking the most wins for the program since the 2001-02 season when the team finished the year with a 13-15 mark.

In the first half, Providence took a seven-point lead (18-11) with 11:26 showing on the clock. Harvard went on a 14-3 run to take a 25-21 lead with 6:43 remaining in the half. Providence rallied down the stretch and outscored the Crimson, 21-8, going into halftime, including a 9-0 run in the final three minutes. The Friars held a 42-33 lead at the break.

In the second half, PC recorded it's first double-digit lead of the game (48-38) with 15:37 left on the clock. Harvard then went on a 20-2 run to take a 58-50 lead with 7:52 remaining in the game. PC chipped away at the deficit and tied the game, 60-60, on a 10-2 run and eventually regained the lead for good with 2:45 on the clock at 67-65. The Friars closed out the game on an 11-2 run, including an eight-of-eight shooting performance from the foul line.

Aside from her game-high 19 points, Bove also contributed four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Sophomore Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) netted 17 points, while freshmen Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) and Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.) added 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Senior Kristina Baugh (Boston, Mass.) dished a team-high six assists. Holmes recorded five assists.

Joining Harvard's Rollins in double figures were Christiana Lackner (12 points), Emily Tay (11 points) and Niki Finelli (10 points). Tay dished a game-high seven assists. Finelli led the Crimson on the boards with seven.

Providence College (10-4) gets into the heart of its BIG EAST Conference schedule on Wednesday, January 3 as it hosts Louisville at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. at 7:00 p.m.
