PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College freshman back Kelly Determan (San Diego, Calif.) was named BIG EAST women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, August 29. Determan is Providence's first-ever women's soccer player to receive the honor.
With three points (one goal and one assist), Determan led the Friars to a 2-0 shutout of Maine at Providence's Glay Field on Sunday, August 28. She played all 90 minutes in the season opener and helped limit Maine's impressive offensive line to just eight shots on goal.
Determan, who played four seasons of varsity soccer at the University of San Diego High School, is the daughter of Don and Cathy Determan.
The undefeated Friars (1-0) return to action on Friday, September 2 when they travel to Colorado College for a 9:00 p.m. (EST) game against Air Force Academy.
