QUEENS, N.Y. - Behind five players in double-figures, the St. John's University women's basketball team posted their largest victory since the 2000-01 season with a 93-40 win over Providence tonight at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm improve to 15-5 overall and 4-5 in the BIG EAST, while the Friars drop to 1-18 and 0-8 in the league.

St. John's connected on their first seven shots of the game to jump out to an early 17-5 lead in the first six minutes. The game began with the Red Storm scoring the first 11 points, behind six points from sophomore Angela Clark (Copiague, NY). Providence's Jill Furstenburg (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) got the Friars on the board with a free throw at 16:12, but the Red Storm would hold onto a double-figure lead for the rest of the game. A 17-3 run over the last 4:33 of the half, highlighted by three three-pointers from junior Tara Walker (Jersey City, NJ), would open up a 45-18 halftime lead. St. John's would shoot 57.7% (15-of-26) from the floor and 66.7% (6-of-9) from behind the arc in the first frame.

The second half began much like the first, with the Red Storm jumping out with an 18-4 run over the first 6:37, as St. John's spread out the scoring with sophomore Kia Wright (Copiague, NY), senior Greeba Barlow (Columbia, MD) and Walker each pouring in five points. St. John's would cruise the rest of the way, as they would open up the largest lead of 54 twice, the first time at 6:29 on a jumper by freshman Jenn Jones (Arkport, NY).

Wright led all scorers with 18 points and six assists, having shot 7-for-12 from the field. Walker added 14 points and Barlow chipped in 13, as they combined to shoot 7-for-9 from behind the arc. Clark and freshman Tiina Sten (Turku, Finland) scored 11 and 10. respectively, to round out the players in double figures.

Furstenburg led the Friars with 16 points. Sophomore Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) tallied 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
