Women's Basketball Falls To 15th-Ranked UConn, 83-33

STORRS, Conn. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to 15th-ranked Connecticut in BIG EAST Conference play, 83-33, on January 4 in Storrs, Conn. Connecticut had three players reach double figures, led by Rashidat Sadiq's career high 16 points. Charde Houston and Ketia Swanier scored 14 points and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) netted a team-high 13 points for Providence.
Connecticut jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first half and never looked back. The Huskies pushed their lead to as many as 25 in the first half (35-10), with 4:35 left on the clock. Snyder led all scorers in the first half with nine points.
In the second half, UConn ran away with the game as it held Providence to just four field goals on 16.7-percent shooting from the field (4-24) in the final 20 minutes. Seven of PC's 15 second-half points came from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Huskies shot 53.1-percent from the field in the second half and outscored the Friars, 42-15, to earn the 83-33 victory.
Providence College (1-12, 0-2 BIG EAST) returns to action on Saturday, January 8 against West Virginia. The game will be played at PC's Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
