PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College cross country Head Coach Ray Treacy was named NCAA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year on November 22. It marks the seventh time since 1990 that Treacy has earned Northeast Regional Coach of the Year honors.

Treacy guided the Providence women's cross country team to its third Northeast Regional Championship on November 15 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Juniors Kimberly Smith (Auckland, New Zealand) and Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) finished first and second, respectively.

Most recently, the Friars finished third overall at the NCAA Championship on Monday, November 24. Smith and Cullen finished second and fifth, respectively and became the 105th and 106th All-Americans to be coached under Treacy. The third-place finish marked the team's best finish at the NCAA's since 1995 when PC captured the title.

Treacy, a 1982 Providence College graduate, was a three-time All-American at PC. He was the Friars' team captain as a junior and senior. The former Irish national junior champion and a past member of the Irish National Cross Country Team, Treacy currently resides in Warwick, Rhode Island with his wife, Lisa, and their two sons, Michael and Liam.
