SAN MARCOS, TEXAS -- The Providence College volleyball team dropped their first two matches at the Southwest Texas St. B&G Properties Invitational on Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8. The Friars (1-5) were defeated, 3-1, on Friday evening to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and lost 3-0 on Saturday to the University of Maryland.

Against A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Providence won the first game of the match, 30-19, but was defeated in the next three games. Senior outside hitter Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) led all players with 14 kills, and added five service aces and eight defensive digs. Classmate Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) added 11 kills and 15 defensive digs and freshman middle blocker Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 12 kills, 10 digs and two blocks.

In Saturday afternoon's game against Maryland, Katinger, Cella and Cadres each totalled seven kills in the three-game loss. Cella chipped in with a service ace and 11 digs. Cadres added two digs and two blocks.

Providence will face Southwest Texas St. on Saturday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. central time to conclude the tournament.
